Our customers talk about it best

The Fer à Cheval Savonnerie

Founded in 1856, Fer à Cheval is the oldest and largest soap factory in Marseille, and one of the very last in France to perpetuate the artisanal and ancestral production of Marseille soap under the expert eye of its master soap makers.
For more than 160 years, the soap factory has continued to make this cult product with tradition, meticulousness and a lot of passion according to the recipe certified by the Edict of Colbert in 1688 and reinforced by the decree of Napoleon Bonaparte of 1812, which is today its worldwide fame.
We are at the very source of the product and pass on this know-how from generation to generation, to the point of today being a Living Heritage Company and holder of the Quality Tourism and French Origin labels Guaranteed for ancestral know-how Made in France .
Our soap factory is listed as a Historic Monument like the Château d'IF, the Cité radieuse or Fort Saint Jean. In Marseille, only 90 monuments have obtained inscription and Fer à Cheval is the only soap factory.
Our factory represents, from a historical point of view, a heritage interest testifying to the traditional activity of the Marseille soap industry of the 19th century
